Sessiz Sinema Words and Movie List (Easy to Hard)
The most time-wasting part of Silent Cinema isn't the game, it's finding words. Someone says "I'll pick," thinks for ten seconds, then suggests a movie everyone knows. The list below is prepared in three difficulty levels to fill exactly this gap.
Easy level — anyone can explain these
Concrete, things that can be shown with gestures, and concepts everyone knows. Right choice for a warm-up round.
- Objects: umbrella, guitar, phone, slipper, broom, glasses, watch, suitcase, iron, flashlight
- Animals: monkey, elephant, eagle, snake, cat, penguin, kangaroo, duck
- Actions: swimming, sleeping, running, brushing teeth, driving a car, taking a photo
- Professions: doctor, soccer player, chef, police officer, teacher, hairdresser, waiter
Medium level — makes you think a bit
- Concepts: traffic, vacation, jealousy, surprise, rush, regret, shopping
- Situations: missing the bus, waiting in line, being late, moving, taking a test
- Places: airport, market, library, gym, barber, hospital
- Compound words: refrigerator, skyscraper, shoe, pencil sharpener, washing machine
Hard level — if the group is warmed up
- Abstract: freedom, patience, hope, loneliness, pride, curiosity, nostalgia
- Idioms: lose your temper, act fancy, be stuck up, have a big mouth
- Hard compounds: garbage truck, fire truck ladder, fire extinguisher, lighthouse
Movie list — ones that are easy to explain
When explaining a movie, the rule is: explain the movie's most famous scene or object, not the whole movie.
- Easy: Titanic, The Lion King, Spider-Man, Ice Age, Harry Potter, Shrek, Pirates of the Caribbean
- Medium: The Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, Forrest Gump, Braveheart, Jurassic Park, The Pianist
- Turkish films: Hababam Sınıfı, Eşkıya, G.O.R.A., Recep İvedik, Vizontele, Neşeli Günler
- Hard: Inception, Interstellar, Good Will Hunting, The Kite Runner
Three rules for choosing words
- Go from concrete to abstract. If abstract concepts come up in the first round, the group gets stuck.
- Pick things everyone will know. If the explainer knows it but guessers don't, it's torture, not a game.
- Don't give words from the same category back-to-back. Variety prevents repetition fatigue.
Instead of memorizing the list
You can print this list and put it on the table, but in practice the other team shouldn't see the word — that's hard with paper. Sessiz Kelime shows the word only on the explainer's screen from 20+ categories; time, passes, and score are also in the app. Word hunting is completely gone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which words are easy in Sessiz Sinema?
Concrete objects, animals, and everyday actions are the easiest to explain. Use abstract concepts and idioms after the group warms up.
What should you do when explaining a movie?
Don't explain the whole movie, explain its most famous scene or object. Also, showing with your fingers how many words it has noticeably cuts down guessing time.
How many words should I prepare?
At least five times the number of players. In an hour-long game, a group of 8 easily uses 40–50 words; using a ready-made category pool eliminates this prep.
