Abbreviations on football prediction slips look like code at first glance. The dictionary below explains with examples what the most common terms mean. This writing is only term explanation; it contains no betting advice.
Match Result (FT)
The result 90 minutes after the kickoff. Extra time and penalties are not included in this prediction.
- FT 1 — The home team wins.
- FT X — The match ends in a draw.
- FT 2 — The away team wins.
Double Chance
An option that covers two of the three possible outcomes at once.
- 1-X — Home wins or a draw.
- X-2 — A draw or away wins.
- 1-2 — Any result except a draw.
Over / Under (total goals)
Expresses whether the total goal count in a match will fall below or above a set limit. The most common limit is 2.5 goals.
- 2.5 Over — The match has 3 or more goals.
- 2.5 Under — The match has 0, 1, or 2 goals.
- The reason the limit has a decimal is to make a tie impossible; you can't score 2.5 goals.
Both Teams to Score (BTTS)
- BTTS Yes — Both teams score at least one goal.
- BTTS No — At least one team fails to score.
- In a 2-0 match, BTTS No happens; in a 1-1 match, BTTS Yes happens.
First Half / Match Result (HT-FT)
A prediction of both the first-half result and the final result together. "1-1" means the home team leads at half-time and also at the end, "X-2" means it's a draw at half-time but the away team wins the match.
Handicap
A prediction made by virtually giving one team a goal difference. When "Home −1 Handicap" is chosen, the home team needs to win by at least two goals. "+1 Handicap" makes the prediction valid even if the team loses by one goal.
Other common terms
